There are a few reasons that I love revisiting this meme and its song. The piano is just so catchy and rambunctious and I’ve always thought about the people of Chicago and the stuff they have to go through day to day… especially the South Side like the song says! It was wild even back then when I was a kid and this was the one song that was able to get my dad out of the serious box and dance with me and my brothers in front of an AM radio. That the subject of the song was so much larger than life and really, flashier, and wilder than anything I had ever known of as a kid, kind of set me on a path of wanting to buck the world and be me no matter what.
